The Team Approach to Retention in PrEP and HIV Care

Workshop DescriptionAcademy credentialed providers, clinicians, members, social workers, and guest participants will explore the profound impact of antiretroviral therapy and the HIV care continuum in the United States, quantifying individuals affected by HIV and identifying gaps in care. Effective retention in care for PrEP services and HIV treatment can significantly reduce new infections and HIV-associated morbidity and mortality. Interactive sessions will offer insights and strategies for improving retention in care, involving health care professionals, support personnel, peer navigators, health department staff, and individuals with HIV, with the aim of enhancing HIV care outcomes in the United States.

Learning Objectives
  • Incorporate into clinical practices novel strategies for the identification and re-engagement of patients lost to either PrEP care or HIV treatment follow-up.
  • Describe how competing life factors and adverse events can interrupt retention in care.
  • Discuss best and promising practices in retention in PrEP care/HIV treatment.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline intake processes to reduce patient burdens.
  • Develop and incorporate strategies to address local/regional referral needs for clinical services, including medical and supportive care.
