Mental Health Webinar Series: Substance Use Disorders

Webinar DescriptionThis webinar will provide an overview of substance use disorders and HIV. Substance use disorders are one of the most common mental health disorders faced by people with HIV. Substance disorders are associated with poor antiretroviral medication adherence, neurocognitive impairment, psychosocial issues, a lack of social support, HIV disease progression and increased risk of HIV transmission. This webinar will discuss theses issues along with assessment, screening and diagnostic criteria for substance use disorders among people with HIV.

Designed for the HIV health care professional, this webinar will look at the clinical manifestation of substance use disorders among people with HIV. Also covered in the webinar: diagnostic criteria; etiology and physiology of substance use disorders; the impact of substance use disorder on health; and evidence-based interventions, including prescribing and monitoring of medications and referral to treatment.
